GLASGOW RANGERS FC
In spring 1872,four young men, brothers Moses and Peter McNeil,William McBeath and Peter Campbell formed what was to become one of the most famous and sucessful teams in the world. The name "Rangers" derives from an english rugby club which Moses had heard of. Vale of Leven, one of the country's big teams at that time, refused to play Rangers, as the Rangers team was made up of mostly teenagers. But in 1873 when they finally agreed to take them on, Rangers drew the match and acheived the same result against Clydesdale, another big team at that time.So right from the beginning Rangers were making their mark. The Scottish Football Association was formed in March 1873, so after some good results with some of the best teams in the country,Rangers were officialy formed, and became members. In the 1874-75 season Rangers made their competitive debut in the scottish cup against Oxford and won 2-0. David Gibb scored the historic goals and put the greatest club in the world on the road to glory. The eleven men who took part in that first ever match are James Yuill, Peter McNeil (Captain), Tom Vallance, William McBeath, William McNeil, Moses McNeil, David Gibb, Peter Campell, James Campbell, George Phillips and James Watson.
